On January 31, 2017 at approximately 2:45 PM, a Susanville Police Officer attempted a traffic stop on North St. near Memorial Park on a Green Honda Civic after it was confirmed that the driver had two felony warrants for his arrest. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued through the 1100 block of Main St. and residential streets in the northwest area of Susanville. The driver stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of 555 N. Roop St. and fled on foot. The driver was taken into custody a short time later after officers located him hiding in the backyard of 721 Willow St.
The driver, identified as Ronald Gomes Jr. age/44 of Susanville, was booked into the Lassen County Jail on one no bail felony warrant out of Sacramento County for failing to appear on a stolen vehicle charge and one $25,000 felony warrant out of Shasta County for failing to appear on a charge of escaping from a work release program.
The pursuit lasted approximately 3 minutes and traversed approximately 1.5 miles, with the suspect’s vehicle reaching a maximum speed of approximately 65 MPH.
The Susanville Police Department would like to acknowledge the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol for their assistance during this incident.
The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office for the prosecution of further charges including evading a peace officer with recklessness, delaying or obstructing a peace officer, reckless driving, unsafe speed, failing to stop at posted stop sign and failing to stop for a red signal.
